Q – I love photography but have never used a camera before, is this course suitable for me or should I learn the basics first?
A – This photography course will teach you everything you need to know starting at the very basics.
Q – I don’t own a camera but am planning on purchasing one before the course, which camera should I get?
A – If you have already budgeted for a new camera, I would suggest you attend the first two lectures of the course first before purchasing a camera, that way you will learn a lot about cameras and how they work, be able to see the other students cameras, and get to ask Mark his opinion.
Q – Mark, I have been considering the option of studying an online course, what is your opinion?
A – Photography is very hands on; there is nothing like having a person explain a point, then physically show you, then have you do it yourself. You can ask questions right there and then, download images to a computer for further discussion or repeat the exercise again and again under supervision. In a class group, many questions your classmates ask will answer your own questions too. Personally, I would never study anything online.
Q – Are there many homework assignments?
A – No, there are none. The course is designed so that you will learn and practice your newfound knowledge in interactive classroom sessions and in the practical outdoor sessions. However, I do encourage you to practise as much as possible and do give examples of “photo shoots” you can do on your own.
Q – I have seen other course advertised that are longer than yours, does this mean they are better?
A – No it does not. Most short courses are between about 20 and 24 hours. Some establishments have one lecture a week and others have lectures of 2 hours each. I have designed the course over a short period of 4 weeks for the following reasons. Firstly, the time between lessons is only ever a few days at most, this way the knowledge from the previous lesson will still be relatively fresh in your mind, and secondly, it is easy to plan your life for a short period of 4 weeks for the course.
